If PM can be replaced. Who’s next?

A new trend had began with many saying — there won’t be product managers in the future, as they can be replaced by candid Engineers and Designers.

It can be the case. With my own eyes I’ve seen brilliant Engineers outline strategies better than anyone; I also believe that many Designers have the aptitude to lead beyond the user experience and journey, but also where the product itself is going.

However, this line of thinking doesn’t end here, does it?

Subsequently, we shall start to reflect on:

  • There will be no need for a QA, as it can be replaced by Devs.
  • There will be no need for DevsOps, same as above.
  • There will be no need for a User Researcher, as it can be replaced by UX Design.
  • There will be no need for BI Analysts, as it can be replaced by AI.
  • There will be no need for Sales Development, as it can be replaced by Pre-sales.
  • There will be no need for Pre-sales, as it can by replaced by Sales.
  • There will be no need for Account Management, as everything can be replaced by product-led-growth.
It’s just one job.

They can. Does is mean they should?

Does a famous company start doing it makes it a “should”?

Or, does opinions on social media make it a “should”?

What makes it a “should” for YOU?
